Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is a northern state ofIndia• The state borders with Tibet in the north, Nepal in the east, and inter- state boundaries with Himachal Pradesh in the west and northwest and Uttar Pradesh in the south• The summer capital is Gairsain and winter capital is Dehradun• The state was November 2000

Official language is HindiHighest elevation is Nanda DeviThe total area of the state is 53,483 square kilometers• It is often referred to as the ‘Devabhumi‘ literally Land of Gods due to presence of numerous Hindu temples and pilgrimage centres

KARNATAKA

Karnataka is a southwestern state of India• Karnataka state was formed on 1st November 1956. Karnataka is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west, Goa to the northwest, Maharashtra to the north, Telangana to the northeast, Andhra Pradesh to the east, Tamil Nadu to the southeast, gth and Kerala to the south

• The state covers an area of about 1,91,976 square kilometers• The capital city is Bangalore• Mullayyanagiri is the highest peak (1,929m)

THERE are 13 districts in Uttarakhand, which are grouped into 2 divisions, Kumaon and Garhwal

KARNATAKA

• There are 31 districts in Karnataka



GOVERNMENT

UTTARAKHAND

ThE state has di Unicameral . Legislation consists of 70 membersThe state elects: 5 members to Lok Sabha and 3 seats to Rajya Sabha

KARNATAKA• The Legislative Assembly consists of 224 members• The Legislative Council consists 75 membersof• The people elect 28 members to Lok Sabha• Legislative Assembly elects 12 members to Rajya Sabha



FLORA AND FAUNA

UTTARAKHAND

The total forest area of Uttarakhand is around 65%• Leopards, jungle cat, fishing cat, deer, sloth, Himalayan black bears, Indian grey mongooses, Indian pangolins and langur etc. are most common in Uttarakhand• Marsh Crocodiles, gharials and other reptiles are also found in the region• About 18,000 plant species have been recognized in the state

KARNATAKA

 The State has 20.19% of forest area• Wild animals that are found in Karnataka include the elephant, the tiger, the leopard, the gaur, the sambar deer, the chital or spotted deer, the muntjac, the small Indian civet, sloth bear, striped hyena, golden jackal etc.,

• The dances of the region are • Yakshagana of Malnad and Coastal Karnataka, a classical dance drama, is one of the major theatrical forms of Karnatakaconnected to life and human existence emotionsandexhibit human• Langvir Nritya is a dance for males that resemblesgymnasticmovements• The dances of the region include Hurka Baul, Jhora-ChanchriChhapeliThadyaJhumaila, Pandav etc.,

The women in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand can usually be found wearing a ghagra along with a kameez as a blouse​.

 

KARNATAKA

Saree is the traditional dress of women in Karnataka. Dhoti, known as Panche is the traditional attire fo men• Shirt, Trousers and Salwar Kameez are widely worn in Urban areas​.



CUISINE

UTTARAKAHNAD

• The primary food of Uttarakhand is vegetables with wheat being a staple, although non-vegetarian food is also served• Coarse grain with high fibre content is very common in UttarakhandBal Mithai is a popular fudge-like sweet• Other popular dishes include DubukChains, Kap, BhatiyaJaula etc.,

KARNATAKA

• Rice and Ragi form the staple food in South Karnataka, whereas Jolada rotti, Sorghum is staple to North Karnataka• Bisi bele bath, Jolada rotti, Ragi muddeUppittuBenne Dose, Masala Dose and Maddur Vade are some popular food items• Among sweets Mysore Pak, Karadantu of Gokak and AmingadBelgaavi Kunda Dharwad Pedha are popular
